Job Responsibilities: Assisting in preparing responses to commodity tax queries from business units; Monitoring and improving the commodity tax return process and identifying commodity tax opportunities and exposures; Accurately preparing and filing prescribed commodity tax returns and refund claims in a timely manner (including GST/HST, QST, PST, fuel tax, and carbon tax); Reconciling and analyzing monthly tax account balances and details to confirm their validity and investigating variances; Assisting in the completion of government commodity tax audits and refund reviews. Assisting the Manager, Commodity Tax to maintain SAP tax logic. Reviewing specific transactions for commodity tax compliance and minimization and making any appropriate adjustments; Assisting in developing and executing commodity tax compliance and recovery initiatives; and Accurately preparing and filing all assigned commodity tax returns prior to the legislated deadlines, as well as reviewing and reconciling the related notices of assessment; Analyzing tax reports, tax account balances, and related documents to ensure the accurate accounting of the federal and provincial commodity tax liabilities and refunds to minimize penalty and interest charges; and Job Requirements: Demonstrated ability to take initiative; and Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or information technology, or equivalent experience; Strong analytical and communication skills; Keen interest in learning commodity tax; Knowledge of railway business would be an asset; Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; Aptitude for reading and learning legislation and governmental administrative policies; Able to prioritize workload under tight and firm deadlines; Experience in effectively communicating with larger or important groups.
