Job Description:

Credit Risk ensure that Sainsbury’s Bank and AFS (SBAFS) lend within agreed risk appetite, which is set by the Bank’s Board.  The team sit in a 2nd Line Risk function and as well as developing and overseeing compliance with the bank’s risk appetite, the team is also responsible for the development of a credit risk strategy which is in line with that risk appetite, and which supports the Commercial vision for the organisation.  There are five teams within Credit Risk who perform distinct tasks:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the impairment inputs into the Bank’s Financial Planning and ICAAP processes ensuring that there is adequate input from Collections & Recoveries (C&R) and Portfolio Management.
  • Ensure there is an effective suite of MI which explains key drivers of Loss Forecasting.
  • To provide feedback and coaching to the Senior Analysts involved in completion of Provisioning activities in order to maximise outputs and to support individual development.
  • Responsible for co-ordination of monthly Threats & Opportunities ensuring that it is up to date and reflects input from key stakeholders across Credit Risk and C&R.
  • Input into Commercial initiatives, such as product development and pricing such that Provisioning requirements are adequately considered.
  • Deliver insight into key drivers of impairments including underlying arrears performance and movements in expected credit loss.
  • Deliver regular BAU reporting packs to support working groups and Retail Credit Risk Committee (RCRC) ensuring the content is accurate and insightful.
  • Attend, when required, RCRC, and other appropriate committees.
  • Ensure appropriate operational risk identification and control within the Provisioning Team and specifically own the relevant process risk & control assessments.

  • Ability to make recommendations when information is incomplete or conflicting.
  • Strong leadership skills – relevant management experience an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to convey technical issues to non –technical colleagues.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience within credit risk including significant experience within Retail banking or finance.
  • Highly numerate with a degree in a relevant discipline.
