Job Description:

A key member of the wider Retail FP&A team, acting as the Finance lead on Capital decisions, providing co-ordination, communication and insight on the Capital Investment program for the Board.

This role coordinates organisation wide forecasting and planning disciplines for Capital investment, risk and opportunity evaluations, investment tracking and benefits realisation insight. Responsible for leading a team of finance professionals to ensure delivery of effective forecasting, insight, reporting and accountability for capital investments decisions and maximise the realisation of benefits.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engagement and presentation to the Capital Returns Forum (CRF), Investment Review, Business Performance Review and Operating Boards as required, shaping investment strategic prioritisation
  • Lead the consolidation activity for all divisional financial submissions into the total Retail Capex picture, working cross functionally with Finance teams to understand and challenge the information received
  • Embedding P&L implications of capital investment program with FP&A / Business Partnering teams
  • Lead and support the Finance Transformation team to deliver the Future Finance Programme to drive change and add value, in particular the Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting (PBF) tool
  • Lead the annual Capital Budgeting process, Q2 Forecast, Latest Views and five year Corporate Plan, including scenario evaluations of our strategic investment choices
  • Coordinate completion of PIR’s across Sainsbury’s Capital spend, ensuring accountability for reporting up to the relevant Board to aid future decision making, strategic course correction and embed key learnings
  • Responsible for providing insightful analysis on drivers of capital and benefits variations to plan
  • Agile prioritisation and communication of in-flight course correction/optimisation decisions to ensure maximum effectiveness of our investment program
  • Coordinate agendas, papers and minutes for both the CRF and the Investment Review
  • Provide timely and accurate Capital and benefits realisation reporting to the CRF, Business Performance Review and Operating Board as required
  • Managing the Latest View process by working closely with divisions on their latest expectations and monitoring the risks and opportunities to ensure that the organisation meets its financial targets
  • Lead, develop and motivate members of the team to high performance through great coaching and communication, review of work, suggesting areas for improvement and sharing expertise

Job Requirements:

  • High level of drive and enthusiasm
  • Experience of maintaining strong financial controls
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, written and numeracy skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate previous experience of applying strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated team player, able to work autonomously
  • Ability to work under pressure – providing accurate high quality work under tight deadlines
  • Professional Accounting Qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with extensive post qualification experience at a senior level within practice, Retail or an equivalent fast moving organisation
  • Proven history of effective prioritisation and ability to push back when appropriate
  • Committed to driving change and comfortable with managing any associated conflicts
  • Strong commercial acumen with a clear focus on driving excellent financial and commercial performance
  • Effective communicator and challenger with stakeholders up to and including board level, including audiences of varying financial and commercial acumen

  • Proven track record of managing commercial relationships and influencing senior decision makers
