Job Description:

Under direction, is responsible for supervisory level work directing the activities of the Parking Enforcement Attendants. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with complaints or questions in a professional manner.
  • Coordinates with other divisions and departments on requests for new meter installations, new signs, restrictions on parking due to construction, festivals, etc. and on other parking related matters.
  • Issues parking tickets, boots vehicles, reports meter malfunctions, and tows vehicles in violation.
  • Installs wheel locking devices and repositions scooters, which involves lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Develops and conducts training and indoctrination programs for employees.
  • Responds to resident inquiries and complaints, speaking to the public and/or communicating electronically to address their concerns.
  • Coordinates and obtains wrecker service from Police Dispatcher.
  • Reviews daily issuance of parking tickets.
  • Maintains employee performance appraisals and attendance records.
  • Assures that safety policies and procedures are carried out.
  • Prepares and maintains daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reports on ‘boots’, vehicles towed, etc., using basic office equipment.
  • Supervises Parking Enforcement Attendants.

Job Requirements:

  • Skill in operating a bicycle.
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices.
  • Ability to plan and organize daily, weekly, monthly, and annual activities.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and training.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and tact in tenuous situations.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing rudimentary software.
  • Ability to interpret and apply City ordinances, codes and states laws related to parking.
  • Ability to handle all the physical requirements with or without accommodations of the job.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
  • Skill in utilizing a police radio.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to use a ‘boot’.

Qualification & Experience:

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience in a field which involves public contact or two (2) years of parking enforcement experience.
  • Previous parking enforcement or other related enforcement category experience to include general knowledge of: Traffic signs, traffic laws and regulations pertaining to traffic control; the hazards and safety precautions to be observed in traffic operations work.
  • This position requires a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License OR valid driver’s license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at time be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • Ability to interact as a team member with sensitivity towards a multi-cultural work environment.
  • Must successfully complete the training course offered by the Department.
  • Experience riding a bicycle.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite experience.
  • Experience auditing department assets, programs, vehicles, etc.
  • Experience troubleshooting devices (handheld devices, printers, mobile phones, soft issues, etc.).
