Job Description: This position is for an experienced analytical chemist with knowledge and experience in analytical problem solving and chemical analysis of a variety of raw materials, intermediates and finished products related to consumer goods including cleaning, professional cleaning/sanitization, water filtration, charcoal, cat litter, food, personal care products, as well FDA regulated OTC products (natural sunscreens, supplements and vitamins). Job Responsibilities: Working at the bench developing and applying chromatographic methods of analysis including HPLC, LC-MS, LC-QTOF-MS, GC, GC-MS and GC-QTOF-MS to identify and quantify ingredients, impurities, and/or degradation compounds in a variety of often complex household consumer products. The successful candidate must be skilled at operating, maintaining, troubleshooting complex analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, LC-MS, LC-QTOF-MS, GC, GC-MS, and GC-QTOF-MS; experience with Agilent and ABSciex hardware and software is recommended. Working at the bench to characterize materials using SEM/EDX, particle size, and image analysis technologies. The successful candidate must be skilled at operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting related equipment; experience with hardware and software from companies such as Malvern, Microtrac, Wyatt, Hitachi, National Instruments is a plus. Using your experience in the analysis of compounds such as surfactants, antimicrobials, antioxidants, volatile compounds such as solvents, odors and flavors, carbohydrates, natural products, and knowledge of their role in finished formulated products, including various sample preparation, extraction and enrichment techniques. Related data analysis, interpretation, discussion and communication of results and recommendations is required, as is prompt recording of findings in lab notebooks and/or on approved sites. Experience in data management, statistics, design of experimentation, and modelling tools is highly recommended. Working with technical project teams, regulatory, and legal groups on defining the type and extent of analytical test data required for product development, raw material and product troubleshooting, claims substantiation, label claims, intellectual property claims, and regulatory product registration or compliance. Job Requirements: Experience in the analytical characterization of raw materials and formulations based on synthetic and natural compounds, using separation and characterization methodologies such as HPLC-UV/ELSD, LC-MS, LC-QTOF-MS, GC-FID, GC-MS, and GC-QTOF-MS. Working experience with imaging, spectroscopy and microscopy techniques such as SEM/EDX, and particle size analysis is also required. Complementary spectroscopic knowledge including fluorescence, RID, EPR, NMR, FT-IR, as well as database management/data modelling would be a plus/advantage. The ability to develop, run, and optimize various analytical methodologies for effective compound identification and quantitation for R&D and manufacturing facilities is required. 4-8 years' experience working in an analytical chemistry lab in a technical leadership position for a consumer goods, food, chemicals, crop protection, pharmaceutical company, or analytical contract research organization. MSc. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field.
