CSX Employment – Roadway Mechanic

Job Description:

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy off-track equipment and roadway machinery. Employees must be able to meet and comply with the manufacturer’s weight limitation safety rating and recommendations for any equipment associated with performing their duties, including the 300 lb. safety rating for ladders (both portable and affixed) and fall arrest equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
• May be required to pull trailers
• Solve work related problems, make decisions, and provide instructions
• Troubleshoot and perform heavy repairs to all types of equipment components including gas and diesel engines, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, various workheads, booms, electrical systems and conveyor belt systems
• Drive heavy duty service truck, including truck mounted crane
• Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
• Understand mechanical operations of machinery

Job Requirements:

• Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations
• This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and membership is req.
• Must pass all required assessments
• The applicant selected may be required to successfully complete a background check
• Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
• Extensive travel required
• Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test

Qualification & Experience:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Valid Driver’s License
• 21 years of age or older
• 4 or more years experience as a mechanic
• CDL required within 60 days after start date, permit must be obtained prior to start date
• 1 or more years experience with hyraulic and pneumatic system repairs
