Job Responsibilities:

  • Installation and commissioning of traditional electrical installations, retrofits, and upgrades.
  • Scoping, Installing and commissioning of photo voltaic (solar) power systems;
  • The intent of this process is to staff one (1) position on a full-time, indeterminate basis in Parry Sound, ON.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting stand by generators and similar gas powered equipment; also,
  • Installation and maintenance of navigational lighting systems;
  • At the Canadian Coast Guard our Aids to Navigation Technicians are specialists in the maintenance and repair of our core shore based infrastructure assets (light stations, minor shore lights, buoys, telecommunications equipment) in-service throughout the region; as well as, the care and upkeep of our environmental response equipment.
  • A pool of qualified candidates may be established from this process and may be used to staff similar positions with different tenures (i.e. on a term, acting or an indeterminate basis) in the Canadian Coast Guard within the Great Lakes region in Amherstburg, Kenora, Parry Sound, and Prescott.
  • Responding to system outages and effecting repairs to restore service;

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to develop action plans to address suspected deficiencies including estimating labour, material, and equipment requirements
  • Valid class G driver’s license and willingness to drive an automobile vehicle or a light truck.
  • Willingness and ability to walk on rough grounds in various weather conditions (cold weather, wind, rain, snow).
  • Valid medical suitability.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for period up to six (6) weeks and to use various modes of transportation including helicopter, ships, planes and small boats.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Willingness and ability to climb and work in high structure (towers) up to 35 meters high.
  • Ability to detect and correct problems found on systems and equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to identify and apply mitigative measures to address suspected workplace hazards
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in the maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems (such as diesel generators)
  • Experience using software for Life Cycle Management.
  • Experience in the installation and/or maintenance of aids to navigation equipment and systems.
  • Experience working at heights with fall arrest equipment in compliance with an approved fall protection program.
  • Experience in the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic or similar off grid power generation systems.
  • Knowledge of LED (Light emitting diode) technology.
