Job Description:

Essential to the operations of the FBI, Electronics Technicians troubleshoot, install, redesign and maintain complex electronic systems and numerous interrelated subsystems, including locks, alarms and surveillance equipment in a range of locations including offices and vehicles. Often called to support Special Agents’ critical investigations, Electronics Technicians apply their problem-solving skills to perform repairs, use regular and specialized test equipment and carry out all phases of installation, maintenance and operational testing of electronics. Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical work in electronics surveillance.
  • Interpret and apply standards and policies relating to the work.
  • Perform work on data and voice encryption devices.
  • Coordinate projects with other Headquarter units as necessary.
  • Lead and mentor subordinate ETs.
  • Perform routine assignments.
  • Assist in developing plans for installation of data network systems.
  • Design basic approaches to resolve technical problems.
  • Evaluate new equipment and techniques for implementation.
  • Assist in conducting site surveys and develop strategies for installation of equipment.
  • Conduct site surveys and develop strategies for installation of equipment.
  • Assist in establishing secure communications systems at command centers.
  • Function in various areas of specialization, such as electronic surveillance, data network, emerging forensic video, image, audio, wireless, networking, electronic security, microwave, etc.
  • Receive on-the-job training to perform technical work.
  • Install and maintain electronic physical security equipment.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of electronic physical security equipment.
  • Develop plans for installation of data network systems.
  • Assist in implementing connectivity during crisis situations.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance. May be required to obtain a Secret Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
  • Must be in compliance with the FBI Employment Drug Policy.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must never have been convicted of a felony.
  • Meet all FBI Employment Eligibility requirements.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Education may not be substituted for SE at this grade level.
  • Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LLB or JD, if related.
  • Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1.) class standing, (2.) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3.) honor society membership.
