Job Description: This position offers an exciting and rewarding opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team in the collection, analysis, and synthesis of water quality and biological data in the Suisun Marsh and surrounding areas, as mandated by California State Water Resources Control Board Water Rights Decision 1641, California Department of Fish and Wildlife Incidental Take Permit, Suisun Marsh Preservation Agreement, and other regulatory obligations. The incumbent is responsible for installing, maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, and operating hydrologic and water quality monitoring equipment, as well as maintaining data quality according to California Department of Water Resources Quality Assurance protocols. The incumbent will analyze, synthesize, and manage the data that will then be used to support scientific investigations, regulatory compliance, and adaptive management. Incumbent must be physically able to meet the demands of field and estuarine sampling; must be able to swim at least 50 yards and stay afloat for at least 10 minutes; must be able to lift, pull, or push equipment or objects weighing up to 40 pounds; must be able to function on boats in rough waters without incapacitation due to seasickness; must be able to operate a Class 1 boat; must be able to work in adverse weather conditions; must be able to walk, work, and drive on rough terrain; must have the ability to work from boats of varying sizes; and must be able to represent the Department well in public meetings and while working with the public in the field. Occasionally, during declared emergencies, this position provides necessary support to the Divisions of Flood Management, Safety of Dams, Operations and Maintenance, and/or the Public Affairs Office. The incumbent may participate in emergency operations in the capacity of area teams, field inspection, coordination, and assist agencies such as CalOES and FEMA.
