Job Description:

The Technical Services Officers and Technical Services Coordinators lead and manage the maintenance and technical services teams at National Parks and National Historic Sites in the Eastern and Central Ontario Field Unit. The positions coordinate the inspection of assets, compliance testing and reporting, identify work requirements, action work requests, plan and schedule the work by in-house crews or through external contractors. The positions are directly accountable for a managing financial resources including an annual operations and maintenance budget as well as special project funds. The positions provide technical expertise and support to Park Superintendents, the Field Unit Asset Manager, internal clients and stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • This process is intended to fill one (1) full-time indeterminate (permanent) Technical Services Coordinator position at Bruce Peninsula National Park / Fathom Five National Marine Park, Tobermory, Ontario; and one (1) full-time indeterminate (permanent) Technical Services Coordinator position at Thousand Islands National Park, Mallorytown, Ontario.
  • A pool of candidates may be established through this process to staff Technical Service Coordinator (EG-05) positions, and may be used to staff identical or similar positions (operational and project) with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate, acting, assignment at level, deployment), in various work locations in within the Eastern and Central Ontario Field Unit.
  • A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff Technical Services Officer EG-04 positions with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate, acting, assignment at level, deployment) and for various locations, including Georgian Bay Islands National Park, Midland, Ontario, and National Historic Sites, located in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Kingston, Ontario, Prescott, Ontario and Ottawa, Ontario, and may be used to staff identical or similar positions (operational and project) with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate, acting, assignment at level, deployment) in various work locations within the Eastern and Central Ontario Field Unit.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and health and safety regulations as applied to construction.
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team of manual labour, trades and/or administrative staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and oral.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and practices, best practices for ‘green’ construction and operations, project and risk management.
  • Possession of a valid class G Driver’s License OR personal mobility to the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid Driver’s license within the limits of the Treasury Board Policy.
  • Willingness to wear the Parks Canada uniform, identifier clothing and required safety equipment/PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Exercises Sound Judgement: encourage open discussions and gather relevant information to make decisions that are sensitive to teams needs and changing demands.
  • Ability to assess complex information and situations and develop strategic recommendations and actions.
  • Ability to brief senior managers (e.g. preparing and delivering briefing notes, presentations options analysis).
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, shift work, overtime, weekends and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays, when required.

  • Ability to write, review, interpret and analyze technical documents.

  • Willingness to travel and / or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Exercises Sound Judgement: encourage open discussions and gather relevant information to make decisions that are sensitive to teams needs and changing demands.
  • Experience planning, managing and delivering construction and maintenance projects.
  • Experience coordinating and delivering the inspection, assessment, testing, and monitoring of built assets. (e.g. buildings, trails, fuel storage tanks, HVAC & electrical systems, docks, grounds, roads, small water and wastewater systems).
