Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing technical documentation in support of engineering design, procurement, installation, maintenance and disposal of CCG fleet assets. This includes writing technical specifications, statements of work, and procedures; carrying out options analyses and impact assessments; and producing computer aided design (CAD) drawings.
  • Performing on-site verification of compliance of all “As-Fitted” CCG vessel drawings to various regulations, standards and specifications.
  • Verifying contract deliverables for accuracy and validity, such as updated drawings; test and trial reports; measurements for specific equipment; and engineering design documentation.
  • Providing lifecycle management services in support of design, procurement, installation, maintenance and disposal activities for CCG assets.
  • Analyzing machinery data, inventories, and drawings to assist with the preparation of specifications for the acquisition and overhaul of major equipment or components.
  • Validating maintenance, repairs, and fabrication, by witnessing inspections, tests, and trials onboard CCG vessels, in shipyards, and at contractor’s facilities.
  • Assisting vessel maintenance managers in coordinating contracted maintenance and in-service engineering work on Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) vessels in Central Region.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to review and prepare technical documents in support of either engineering projects in a maritime work environment.
  • Able and willing to travel domestically on occasion using various means of transportation such as ships, planes, and helicopters, sometimes on short notice;
  • Ability to communicate orally.
  • Able and willing to work extended hours as required;
  • Valid Health Canada Medical (however, a valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate may be accepted on initial appointment for a period of up to a maximum of 6 months or until a Health Canada Medical is completed);
  • Able and willing to conduct site visits to vessels, shipyards, and other industrial sites;
  • Ability to communicate in writing.
  • Able and willing to work at heights;
  • Able and willing to work in narrow spaces, cramped quarters and on steep ladders;
  • Valid Canadian Provincial or Territorial driver’s license, equivalent to an Ontario Class G Driver’s license, or mobility normally associated with a valid Driver’s License;
  • Able and willing to work in industrial work sites with excessive noise, and in adverse environmental conditions.
  • Ability to analyze issues, assess impacts, and develop options or solutions.
  • Able and willing to wear and maintain CSA approved safety footwear and job-related personal safety equipment;
