Job Description:

The Biostatistician (Global Health Research) is responsible for providing statistical guidance in the planning stages of health research design, assessing and improving data quality, conducting complex analyses, and interpreting results and communicating findings for grant funded projects. The projects will focus on supporting the development of risk prediction models for children and/or mothers in low resource settings (maternal, newborn and child health) , evaluating the effectiveness of physiological monitoring devices made for low resource settings, and supporting the analysis of data collected in global hip health related data registries.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads efforts in the integration and addition of machine learning, and other artificial intelligence methods, onto more standard regression-based methods of prediction modelling.
  • Develops and advises on the epidemiological studies for clinical trials with children and/or women, including randomization procedures and selection of outcome measures in order to achieve the study objectives in collaboration with clinical and research staff.
  • Writes statistical methodology sections of health research grant proposals.
  • Prepares global health data from low- and middle-income settings, for sharing in registries, open data co-laboratories, and for merging with other datasets.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Trains global health research staff and trainees on statistical software application.
  • Participates in the assessment and introduction of new data technology supporting digitalization and automation efforts for global health research projects.
  • Leads efforts in data visualization of child and/or maternal health research data, through the use charts, tables, graphs, maps, infographics, and dashboards.
  • Maintain meticulous records of methodology, code and decisions making for all steps of data analysis to ensure reproducibility and transparency.
  • Participates in a variety of health research committees related to clinical trials and outcome evaluation activities.
  • Interprets statistical analyses from child health studies and makes recommendations.
  • Drafts written reports of statistical findings from child and/or maternal health related studies for publication and knowledge translation.
  • Tests for accuracy of health research data utilized for outcome analyses by reviewing data and comparing it to the data definitions and identifying inconsistencies.
  • Leads the statistical aspects of the design of the global child and women’s health research which include grant writing, implementation, analysis, and manuscript writing.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in research methodology, data analysis, statistical analysis, or equivalent an asset
  • Strong basis in fundamental statistical concepts and methods and familiarity with techniques such as development and validation of prediction models, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, meta-analysis, and hierarchical analysis techniques etc. Knowledge of SQL programming is an asset. Familiarity with Power BI is an asset.
  • Experience in research methodology, data analysis, statistical analysis, or equivalent an asset
  • Experience in research analysis, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a health research, epidemiology or biostatics setting preferred
