Job Description:
The Project Management Support Co-op role supports a team of professionals in the management and development of major construction projects to achieve the project outcomes in a technically viable, cost effective and timely manner. The focus of this role will be to support incumbent Project Engineers with interdisciplinary coordination with selected engineering contractors and within the Owner’s team for scope definition/control, and schedule of engineering deliverables to meet Procurement, Construction and Operational requirements. The incumbent will support the management of Owner directed engineering and/or engineering and procurement (EP) agreements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Co-ordinate scope / design reviews between the engineering contractor(s), other engineers and Operations to ensure effective integration and coordination of strategies and programs.
- Develop and implement scopes / documentation / processes in accordance with Vale global SPE and normative document (PNR) requirements.
- Interface with Operations representatives to ensure required input / participation into project development / design reviews and acceptance.
- Provide input on engineering deliverables for the assigned area of the Project, as required, to validate quality and ensure technical content is within Vale standards.
- Coordinate and communicate where required with other divisional projects and initiatives (e.g., through Operational sustaining projects and Corporate PMO groups)
- Work with Project Controls to ensure methods of measuring engineering progress are in place to monitor engineering execution.
- Co-ordinate the inputs of required stakeholders for technical evaluations of contracts and purchase orders, collating information and supporting the processes to progress technical and commercial evaluations of contract bidder’s submissions.
- Co-ordinate Project change requests from all Project personnel and stakeholders to ensure alignment with Project parameters and objectives, obtaining appropriate requisite approvals to support change implementation. Ensure that all Project change requests are identified on the list of Project trends and tracked in the appropriate change management registers.
- Monitor adherence to project objectives and review engineering scope development and variance to support requisite decision making and approvals.
- Coordinate the identification and integration of Project safety, operability, maintenance, and constructability requirements in the design and the project deliverables.
- Provide field engineering support to ensure continuity of design intent as well as co-ordinate technical inputs for Commissioning and Operational Readiness groups.
- Provide input on the implementation of solutions on key issues and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the Project.
- Co-ordinate various engineering contractor’s scope and corresponding budgets to ensure overall project objectives are met.
- Participate in development of Risk Management plan including consultative identification and consolidation of engineering/technical risks to project development.
- Develop and modify engineering scopes at the direction of the applicable Project Engineer(s), liaising as required with other areas of the integrated owner’s team and / or consultants to ensure alignment with the associated project / study scope definition.
- Support the development of manuals, training, and transfer of the Project to Operations
- Support the coordination of technical governance reviews (Engineering Assessments, HIRA assessment, PNR reviews, QRA reviews) with engineering service providers, the project owner’s team, and Vale internal governance teams as required.
- Co-ordinate technical / engineering inputs to support for permit application processes.
Job Requirements:
- AutoCAD experience is required
- Currently in 2 nd year or higher
- Understanding of drafting – must have completed at least 1 drafting course
- Technical understanding of drawings
- MicroStation experience is an asset, but not a requirement
- Currently pursuing a diploma or degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- Knowledge and working experience using Microsoft Excel
