Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, review and analyze the performance and requirement for Marine Short-Range Aids to Navigation Systems.
  • Research, collect and analyze data related to the characteristics of the waterways, user information and environmental factors.
  • Assess navigational risks and their potential impact on mariners’ safety and the marine environment.
  • Investigate, analyze and recommend solutions/risk mitigation measures relating to the aids to navigation system design performance and navigational hazards to provide recommendations to management in compliance with national directives and international standards.
  • Update and monitor the inventory and operational status of aids to navigation using the national Marine Aids Program Information System (SIPA) database.
  • Work collaboratively with CCG Regional Operations Center/Fleet and Integrated Technical Services (ITS) to recommend replacement and/or maintenance on aids to navigation components, according to their life cycle management and technical specifications.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally
  • Willing and able to travel by any and all modes of commercial transportation including travel by helicopters and boats.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information and make recommendations to management.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the region as required during all seasons.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to provide Client Service Orientation

  • Knowledge of the Marine Navigation and Canadian Aids to Navigation System TP-968.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience using nautical charts
  • Experience conducting engagement with stakeholders including Indigenous Peoples and other government departments.
