NASA Careers – Aerospace Engineer

Website  NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration

Job Description:

The Spaceflight Division at Ames Research Center is seeking skilled individuals to lead and perform research, analysis, and investigations of the motion mechanics of flight vehicles under applied forces of flight vehicles in various atmospheric, planetary, celestial and space environments. Analyses and studies will result in recommendations and guidance on resolving complex problems involving mission design and operational regimens for spaceflight projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in the areas of spacecraft subsystems such as propulsion, guidance, navigation, control, sensors, power, and communications
  • Collaborate with project leads and researchers to identify flight mission design requirements, constraints, and objectives
  • Conduct studies and develop written reports regarding trajectory or system design on system performance and ability to meet mission objectives
  • Provide maneuver support analysis and trajectory design review for new or current projects
  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Conduct trajectory design and orbital analysis of aerospace and aeronautical missions, spacecraft trajectories, and architectures to include flight systems, vehicles and/or payloads
  • Perform trade studies or trajectory analyses for aerospace systems with multiple, cross-competing requirements

Job Requirements:

  • You must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as design and analysis of space mission concepts, with particular focus on trajectory and orbit design; application of software development and industry standard tools such as Systems Toolkit (STK) or General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT), Copernicus, or similar; use of programming analysis utilities in languages such as Visual Basic for Applications, Python, Matlab, or other coding languages; OR systems engineering of systems such as spacecraft subsystems, robotics, or instruments in the areas of system design, development, integration and test.
