Job Description:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, National Health and Safety, and acting as a trusted advisor to business partners, this role will lead the execution of Purolator’s health and safety program within an assigned geography and leads a team of H&S specialists and Coordinators.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitor, review and report monthly health and safety performance indicators/measures
- Work collaboratively with the Environment, Health and Safety team, and with business partners, to drive an improvement in injury frequency.
- Support the external Environment, Health and Safety audit process (identify safety hazards, non-compliance, provide recommendations/programs to mitigate gaps in compliance, etc.)
- Adopting the principles of continuous improvement in establishing and maintaining a strong safety culture
- Support Purolator’s return-to-work program
- Take ownership of the H&S strategy within the region in alignment with operations.
- Ensure integration of health and safety measures into all new processes, equipment, and contract work
- Facilitate / Lead incident investigations, using our Medgate (Cority) program by conducting assessment and root cause analysis, identification of corrective action, ensuring desired follow-up are achieved for high potential and / or high impact incidents.
- Ensure that low severity / low potential incidents are investigated properly and corrective actions are carried out for closure and sustainability.
- Manage a team of H&S coordinators and specialists.
- Work directly with senior operations directors, district managers and unit managers to implement and maintain health and safety operating procedures
- Educate, consult with and influence management regarding unique safety requirements impacting their decisions, business unit operations, systems and procedures
- Actively promote a healthy workplace that is free from workplace violence and harassment
Job Requirements:
- Superior organizational skills to plan, monitor and adjust to dynamic operating issues and a rapidly changing environment
- Have managed a team of H&S professionals within a geographic area.
- Proven ability to effectively influence peers.
- Must have in depth knowledge of legislative requirements to operate in Quebec.
- Possess Health and Safety training on technical standards (Conveyor safety, Manual Material Handling, PPE, etc)
- 5 to 9 years of experience in the field of Occupational Health and Safety. 2 of which in a managerial role in the province of Quebec in Logistics, transport, packaging, courier industry, etc…
- Familiar with Ergonomic standards.
- Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Labor Code part 2, and Provincial health and safety laws.
- A highly effective health and safety professional with a record of demonstrated accomplishment in supporting an effective health and safety program.
- Self-directed and self-motivated, demonstrating a high level of professionalism, ethics, confidence and a commitment to a team approach. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Have received formal training on incident investigation methodologies (preferably TapRoot®)
- Understanding of, and experience applying, principles of risk management and loss control
- Willing to aggressively address problems; assume ownership of issues and provide solutions
- Track record of consistently delivering results
- Familiar with Behavioral Based Safety programs.
- The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a 4 year university degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
