Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Human Resources Manager for Ontario, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for driving our people and culture strategies in the Greater Toronto Area region. This role will lead a dedicated team of HR professionals, while strategically partnering with District Managers on HR priorities linked to operational plans. The ideal person, will champion change, be passionate about growing & developing talent, and be a resilient self-starter in a fast paced growing environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Risk Mitigation and Safety : Implement appropriate controls to safeguard our people and mitigate risks within respective terminals. Champion health and safety initiatives for the terminal.
  • Continuously improve by championing and leveraging technology and a continuous improvement mindset to be able to maximize results.
  • Be Self Driven: build and maintain a high performing HR team by holding self and team members accountable to performance goals, standards, and execution on agreed-upon expectations.
  • Be a People and Culture champion : emphasizing efforts to build effective teams, while driving a culture of excellence aligned to Purolator’s core values and guiding principles.
  • Be able to use data driven insights to design and implement appropriate people strategies to improve our business challenges within the region (i.e. hiring in challenging markets, reducing turnover)
  • Be customer focused: Manage the effective and efficient resolution of all employee issues and ensure all work efforts aim at providing outstanding employee experiences within the respective terminals.
  • Increase our talent population through creative recruitment approaches and partnering with talent partners to be able to achieve hiring requirements during critical operational peak periods.
  • Enhance our talent through the overseeing of programs in areas of flexible staffing, workforce and succession planning, performance management, and attendance management. Responsible for coaching strong and diverse leaders that champion change, while leading engagement and recognition. Coach and mentor direct reports according to career desires and ambitions.
  • Drive proactive positive labour relations , and provide leadership and guidance on contract interpretation, grievances and arbitration preparation / participation.

Qualification & Experience:

  • The ability to lead and manage a positive work environment. You’ll need to be able to lead and coach your team and business partners to adapt to change, while also thinking critically and creatively to find answers to problems.
  • Human Resource Managers are comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity, able to think outside the box, and able to analyze our people climate and find answers that are most suitable to the environment.
  • 7+ years, with 3+ years of that in a leadership position managing ~3+ HR professionals with a track record of success in a unionized environment. Experience in an ecommerce industry is an asset.
