Job Description:
Reporting to the Sr. Consultant Health & Safety, and acting as a trusted advisor to business partners, this role will lead the execution of Purolator’s health and safety program within the BC Lower Mainland.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work directly with facility and department managers to implement and maintain health and safety operating procedures
- Ensure integration of health and safety measures into all new processes, equipment, and contract work
- Support Purolator’s return-to-work program
- Educate, consult with and influence management regarding unique safety requirements impacting their decisions, business unit operations, systems and procedures
- Support the external Health and Safety audit process (identify safety hazards, non-compliance, provide recommendations/programs to mitigate gaps in compliance, etc.)
- Actively promote a healthy workplace that is free from workplace violence and harassment
Monitor, review and report monthly health and safety performance indicators/measures - Partner with stakeholders regarding incident investigations, using our Cority program by conducting assessment and root cause analysis, identification of corrective action, ensuring desired follow-up are achieved
- Evaluate, analyze, and provide suggestions for the improvement and enhancement of work processes, equipment, productivity and cost containment
- Work collaboratively with the Health and Safety team, and with business partners, to drive an improvement in injury frequency
- Adopting the principles of continuous improvement, provide direction and integration of the safety management system to establish and maintain a strong safety culture
- In partnership with the Learning and Development team, support the implementation of required Health and Safety training for Purolator`s managers, employees and contractors, including the maintenance of company and regulatory records and files
Job Requirements:
- Track record of consistently delivering results
- Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
- Valid driver’s licence
- Superior organizational skills to plan, monitor and adjust to dynamic operating issues and a rapidly changing environment
- Willing to actively address problems; assume ownership of issues and provide solutions
- Ability to travel nationally to facility locations
- Self-directed and self-motivated, demonstrating a high level of professionalism, ethics, confidence and a commitment to a team approach
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the field of Occupational Health and Safety (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience)
- Minimum of a 3 year Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, 4 year degree preferred
- A highly effective health and safety leader with a record of demonstrated accomplishment implementing a health and safety program.
- Must set personal ethical standards at a high level and interact with others at all levels within the organization in a manner that instills similar values
- Work outside of regular hours on occasions
- Proven ability to effectively influence all levels at Purolator from Operation directors to frontline workers
- Understanding of, and experience applying, principles of risk management and loss control
- Professional Designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred
