Job Description:

The incumbent is responsible for the commissioning and maintenance of cellular sites and transport facilities in the greater Peterborough area of the Rogers Wireless network. This includes the following systems Microwave Radio, DC Power, Cellular Base Stations (GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G), DAS Systems, Paging, Cisco, Milan switch, RTUs (TLAN), Environmental systems (HVACs, FACs), Fibre Terminals, and Multiport Antenna and Line Systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan for and implement preventive maintenance routines to ensure network standards of performance are met.
  • Administrative reporting of Mileage, Timesheet, Expenses, Equipment and Deficiency ticket updates etc.
  • Participate in retune activities associated with network optimization and build activities.
  • Coordinate with other Technicians and departments as required to maintain service levels.
  • Microwave and Transmission experience would be beneficial (e.g. DS1, DS2, DS3, OC3, OC12, IP)
  • Perform cutovers and upgrades on the network as directed by work orders.
  • Maintain inventory of required parts and perform regular audits to ensure availability of parts.
  • Experience with Optical Fibre, SONET and knowledge of TCP/IP.
  • Test hand-offs, RSSI, transmit level on mobiles, dropped calls and investigate any changes.
  • Respond to corrective network problems, performing effective/efficient problem analysis, rapid troubleshooting diagnosis and prompt repair of equipment to ensure service restoral objectives are met.
  • Maintain “up-to-date” site documentation.
  • Gain in depth knowledge of key quality service indicators in geographic area of responsibility.
  • Perform acceptance tests on newly installed sites and equipment to ensure results meet design specifications.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
  • Travel is required 100% of the time within your own district.
  • 1-3 years of telecommunications experience.
  • Demonstrated investigative, problem solving, analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Available to travel outside of home district as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Diploma or Certificate in Electronics from a technical institute.
