RSPCA Jobs UK – Senior Clinician

Job Description:

As a Senior Clinician you’ll be responsible for the day to day running of the clinical side of the hospital. You’ll play a key role in the coaching and mentoring of staff members acting as the line manager for a proportion of the Veterinary team.

Job Responsibilities:

• Providing advice to centre staff, RSPCA Inspectors, Animal Rescue Officers and members of the public on a range of topics
• including welfare cases, shelter medicine and medical and surgical case management
• Participating in public relations, media activities and fundraising at the hospital
• Coordinating welfare case animal treatment alongside branches, Inspectors and private vet clinics
• Providing clinical guidance to Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses and Hospital Manager
• Assisting in case animal work with our Inspectors, including attending court as a witness
• Acting as the clinical and surgical lead and enhancing patient care
• Monitoring and auditing controlled drugs
• Line management duties
• Oversight of daily, night and weekend rotas
• Develop training programmes and deliver training to other members of staff including student teaching

Job Requirements:

• Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
• Ability to take leadership responsibility as and when required
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Experience in basic orthopaedics is desirable
• Broad range of surgical skills, both routine and emergency
• Logical approach to clinical decision making
• Capable of advising team members in clinical situations (eg. diaphragmatic hernia, splenectomy, urinary obstructions, multiple RTA injuries etc.)
