Job Responsibilities:

• Monitoring and advising the business on the latest marketing, advertising, privacy, consumer protection and digital media legislation
• Partner with various cross-functional business teams to achieve efficient resolution of complex, sensitive and innovative legal issues;
• Manage/lead and/or assign work to paralegal and support staff to specific files or provide day-to-day direction;
• Providing advice and/or legal opinions on various business, operations and/or compliance matters relating to privacy legislation, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and digital marketing industry standards.
• Provide functional legal support and counsel to the retail business teams, including the following primary responsibilities:
• Oversee legal actions in which Sobeys is involved, either directly or through outside counsel, including management and oversight of outside counsel;
• Collaborate and develop cross-functional relationships with internal stakeholders as well as developing strong commercial partnerships to assist in achieving Sobeys’ strategic and commercial objectives;
• Drafting, negotiation and review of various agreements;
• Supporting the Legal team’s initiatives through various internal projects including assisting with drafting and updating contract templates, as necessary;

Job Requirements:

• Collaborate and develop cross-functional relationships with internal clients as well as developing strong commercial partnerships to assist in driving the commercial agenda
• Membership in good standing with a Canadian Law Society
• Fluent bilingual drafting and communication skills a strong asset;
• Proven track record of working under pressure and managing a broad range of matters simultaneously;
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of knowledge of CASL and Canadian privacy legislation;
• Some knowledge of Canadian consumer protection legislation;
• Undergraduate degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience gained from a combination of private practice with a large firm and/or in-house roles;
