Job Responsibilities:

  • Orient new team members; assist in assigning and reassigning tasks; assist in scheduling daily work assignments; and assist others on work procedures and ensuring the performance standards are met
  • Lead contract welders when job size and schedule require increased team sizes – training and monitoring work quality of contractors
  • Communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, deadlines, and issues for review
  • Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structures, launch component supports and pressure vessels
  • Lead problem solving and collaboration of SpaceX tasks and assignments
  • Lead a team of welders during build and repair operations for launch, recovery, and post launch refurbishment
  • Ensure proper weld procedure is followed by all welding staff members, provide information on the type of material and rod size and accurately assess material needs for each welding project
  • Assist supervisor in coaching, mentoring, and training team members

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Will be tested to ASME requirements prior to hiring
  • Must be able to pass visual before being X-rayed
  • Must be available to work both shifts: 1st shift (M-F) 6 AM – 4:30 PM, 2nd shift (M-F) 4 PM – 2:30 AM
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment up to 35 lbs
  • May be necessary to travel occasionally to other SpaceX locations

Qualification & Experience:

  • Proficient in blueprint reading and layout
  • 5+ years of experience welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel projects
  • Proficient in flux cored arc welding (FCAW) or gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW)
  • Proficient in plasma cutting and oxyacetylene cutting
  • Experience working with overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Knowledge of TIG welding processes
  • 5+ years of experience of layout and fabrication experience
