Job Description: Work as part of a team of elite individuals building and improving the mechanical systems at our rocket launch facilities. You will be directly involved in executing procedures necessary to ensure safe and successful rocket launches. Job Responsibilities: Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics. Learn how to work with laser tracking equipment. Use in-depth familiarity of GD&T to interpret blueprints at all assembly levels. Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances; machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders. Set up machines to precise tolerances and operation of conventional mill and lathe machinery. Set up and operate metalworking and cutting equipment; monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. Drill, ream, bore precision holes for bolting/doweling details and use micro drills to machine orifice diameters ranging from .007"-.060". Collect geometric data via laser tracker through model based software such as Verisurf. Support launch operations and working procedures at the launch site. Job Requirements: Ability to obtain respirator certification to apply ablative, paint, puck, and martyte. Ability to perform a hydrotest and pneumostat on components. Previous experience operating lathes, shapers, milling machines, drill presses, and other related equipment. Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise. Experience with structural welding, machining, and metal fabrication. Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Ability to learn how to run launch operations and procedures. Ability to work independently and in a team setting. Ability to continuously improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively in a team. Ability to bend and route tube in the field. Ability to read, interpret, and create blueprints and schematics. Previous experience in shop math, tooling technology, and measurement of parts. Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg. Experience working on a rocket launch pad and supporting launch operations. Ability to operate a flush cart, proof cart, and leak check cart. Qualification & Experience: 10+ years of machining experience. High school diploma or equivalency certificate. 5+ years of experience in manual machining.
