TFL Careers – Transport Planning Apprenticeship

Website TFL

Job Description:

TfL’s transport planners are responsible for ensuring that all the millions of journeys made every single day in London are safe, reliable, and sustainable. With London’s population ever-increasing, it’s more important than ever that we deliver transport networks that encourage active travel (walking, cycling and public transport), improve air quality, and reduce the numbers of private cars on the roads. It takes a range of different disciplines to make these changes happen, including engineering, data analysis, computer modelling, project management and public communications – all of which you will get to engage with on this apprenticeship.

Job Responsibilities:

  • You’ll complete at least five, 6-month placements, examples of which may include:
  • Planning Projects – conducting research and data analysis to support some of London’s major growth and redevelopment projects, and ensure these contribute to a sustainable transport system
  • Bus Network Planning – assessing the performance of TfL’s bus routes; consulting the public and using data to identify performance improvements.
  • Investment Delivery Planning – overseeing the delivery of projects on TfL’s own road network and other assets, and working with boroughs to deliver change on their own highways.
  • Network Performance Delivery – Monitoring and adjusting traffic signal timings in real-time across London; collecting data and constructing computer models to test new scenarios and proposals on TfL roads.
  • The above is only an example we also offer placements in a range of different areas such as Urban Realm Planning, Legal Powers and Consents, Geographic Information Systems, and Development Planning, amongst others.

Job Requirements:

Our talented apprentices form a vital part of that vision, so it’s important that we find the best people to help us do this. We’re looking for people who are;

  • Inquisitive and enthusiastic
  • Passionate about our vision
  • Good at problem solving

As a member of the team, we’ll give you responsibility and the opportunity to add value. If you’re excited by inspiring and influencing the future of London, then this is the career path for you.
