Job Description: Assist in a wide variety of assessment, monitoring, and management activities involving fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures as relates to aquatic animals, both invertebrate and vertebrate, in streams and reservoirs of the Tennessee Valley. Complexity of duties and level of responsibility will expand with increasing experience and expertise. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Job Responsibilities: Support project leaders in implementing activities to assess, monitor, and manage aquatic animals and their habitats in streams and reservoirs. Implement appropriate quality control/quality assurance procedures in carrying out duties. Supports work of other biologists, technicians, and contract employees engaged in collection of data and/or completion of assigned projects and activities. Provides technical review to other operations as requested. Participates on interdisciplinary teams at direction of supervisor, utilizing established procedures and processes to solve problems. Prepare technical material, with supervisory review, for inclusion in (1) management and stewardship reports and (2) compliance and monitoring documents and addressing the nature and significance of anticipated impacts of activities to aquatic resources. Job Requirement: Basic understanding of biological and ecological concepts, principles and practices. Follow instructions and written guidelines in applying scientific principles. Basin knowledge of aquatic resource management principles and practices. Basic knowledge of regulatory issues/constraints/requirements in aquatic resource management fields. Ability to operate boat and other specialized biological sampling equipment. Conduct accurate information recovery, manipulation and analysis. Specialized equipment used in work and sources of technical/scientific information. Use PC for word processing and spreadsheet development. Oral/Written communications. Basic understanding of limnology. Qualification & Experience: Bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university in zoology, aquatic ecology, natural resource management, or closely related field, or equivalent training and experience in an aquatic resource management field.
