Job Description:

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Island Medical Program (IMP) is a distributed site of the UBC Faculty of Medicine MD Undergraduate Program.
  • The MD Undergraduate Program is distributed to four geographically distinct sites across British Columbia to address the shortages of physicians in rural, remote, coastal, and Indigenous communities, where healthcare needs are most acute.
  • The Island Medical Program occurs in partnership with the University of Victoria and the Island Health to deliver medical curriculum.
  • The IMP delivers UBC’s MD Undergraduate Program in partnership with the University of Victoria and Island Health.
  • Reporting to the Head of the Department of Pediatrics, the successful candidate will develop and manage their own research program, seek salary awards and funding for research studies, and foster research collaborations with various internal and external parties.
  • In addition, they will provide support for trainees and work to develop their own knowledge and skills in health professional education.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational missions at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level, as well as make academic service contributions.

Job Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be an MD Clinician who holds an MD or MD/PhD.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed, or are in the process of completing a related PhD program.
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability in research and scholarly activity and potential for excellence in teaching, and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teaching activities.
  • Experience in a health professional context would be beneficial. Areas of special interest within the Faculty of Medicine include distributed medical education, competency assessment, use of technology in teaching and learning, simulation, communication in healthcare, and program evaluation.
  • The successful candidate will complement and extend the expertise of current Pediatrics faculty and actively create and foster an environment that promotes inclusivity and the values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity.
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to support and stimulate the growth and development of health professional education research across educational programs.
  • The incumbent will be an outstanding junior researcher, ideally trained in a social science discipline with applicability to health professional education.
