Job Description: The Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) is one of four distributed undergraduate medical education sites within The University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine. The expansion is a partnership involving three universities: The University of British Columbia (UBC), The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and The University of Victoria (UVic). The development, implementation and management of the VFMP is an innovative collaboration between UBC and Regional Health Authorities with a mandate to provide undergraduate medical education training to students throughout the Vancouver Fraser regions of British Columbia. Job Responsibilities: Develops, recommends, implements, and maintains systems and processes to integrate with other UBC MDUP program sites from the Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), and Southern Medical Program (SMP). Represents the VFMP and the MDUP (as required) on various Faculty and University Committees/Councils as well as National Committees. Provides advice, guidance and direction to members on these committees/councils. Provides leadership on challenging issues such as performance management, grievance meetings, and matters requiring diplomatic solutions. Develops, implements, and manages timely recognition programs for faculty, staff, and volunteers. Recognizes staff efforts and opportunities for growth and development. Leads the overall management and delivery of undergraduate medical education to 192 plus students (768 over 4 years) across Vancouver Fraser teaching sites. Meets regularly with the Administrative Director, Postgraduate Medical Education to set objectives, establish priorities, and develop strategies for the cross-integration of undergraduate and postgraduate medical educational systems. Oversees core VFMP staff performance reviews. Creates staff performance plans and personally reviews at least 50% of the plans; attends to performance issues and leads all disciplinary issues. Works closely with MDUP and UGME leadership on all aspects of medical education at VFMP. Leads VFMP in reviewing, developing, and implementing a wide range of long-term solutions and strategies in line with MDUP’s mission and vision. Mediates working relationships between faculty and operational staff to ensure workplace conflicts are effectively addressed and resolved. Where is this not possible, the Administrative Director works with the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser and other Senior Leaders to develop and implement effective solutions to resolve issues, in accordance with UBC policies and the University s employment agreements. Job Requirements: Demonstrated experience working in a University, health care or other complex environment or in Business or Health Sciences Administration preferred. Excellent leadership, problem solving, conflict resolution and communication (oral and written) skills. Ability to think strategically and analytically. Leadership ability in complex and highly changeable situations. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive framework to their work. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships. Excellent organizational skills. Thorough understanding of administrative and financial management and processes. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Supervisory experience of management and support staff as well as experience working with individuals at all levels of an organization. Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies and an understanding of change management principles, an asset. Experience working with budgets and financial reports. High degree of conflict resolution skills and the ability to mediate any dispute amongst operational staff members or between the employee and management. Ability to manage solutions to reflect creativity, innovation, and the involvement of others. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding, and respect of diverse and divergent perspectives and behaviours, as well as across multiple mediums including print- and web-based tools, meetings, forums, and other gatherings. Knowledgeable regarding Vancouver Fraser communities, an asset. Advanced to intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
