Job Description:

UBC has embarked on a multi-year journey to transform its academic and administrative support processes and system environments for the entire UBC community. In November 2020, UBC successfully went live with its new HR and Finance implementation of Workday. The Integrated Renewal Program (IRP) is now focused on the journey to renew the Student information ecosystem, anchored by the implementation of Workday Student.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and resource allocations across and within projects in their team.
  • Ensure successful completion of work assignments. Provides ongoing reviews of practices for continuous improvement.
  • Supports an engaged, collaborative, and exceptional learning, research, and working environment for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Provides robust, secure, sustainable solutions that are fiscally responsible.
  • Demonstrates commitment to meet deadlines and priorities and is accountable to the timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Creates a simple, intuitive, consistent user experience where we interact with confidence and ease.
  • Ensures reliable, integrated, and accessible institutional data that enables people to make informed, strategic decisions.

  • Using a wide range of tools and techniques create and maintain a collaborative, motivated and positive team atmosphere.
  • Enables a cohesive alignment of practices and processes.
  • Allows for a multi-phase migration approach from the legacy SIS environment to enable Workday Student implementation while maintaining critical SIS functions within the target milestone structure.
  • Leads the introduction and management of application change and provides mentoring for the University’s application ecosystem teams.
  • Provides highly specialized application expertise and mentoring through every phase of an infrastructure project’s life cycle including project planning, requirements definition, implementation and operationalization of new technology services.
  • Provides technical guidance and leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
  • Makes presentations at local, regional, national and international conferences and workshops as well as to partner institutions.
  • Collaborates with key technology and application teams across the University.
  • Empowers team members to be accountable for results and keep commitments

Job Requirements:

  • Effective negotiation and facilitating skills with an ability to resolve conflicts in a positive manner.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate groups to achieve appropriate outcome.
  • Ability to adopt a project management approach for such undertakings as the development and implementation of application solution strategies; and a task-orientated approach to solving operational application problems.
  • Ability to provide leadership within a group of technical professionals.
  • Ability to mentor and coach staff, act as a resource, and to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities, and work under pressure in time sensitive, mission critical situations.
  • Excellent analytical abilities to minimize the impact of application failures and provide long term solutions.
  • Ability to assess interoperability, supportability, reliability, robustness and scalability for application infrastructure.
  • Ability to translate complex technical solutions and systems architecture strategies to IT peers and a variety of University customers and partners, some of whom require non-technical explanations, directions and requirements documentation.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain communications with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to prepare complete, concise, and understandable application and technical documentation.
