Job Description:

An interdisciplinary course that interrogates the constitution of blackness in Canada. Students will study race and ethnic relations, alongside other identity formations such as class, gender and sexuality. Topics to be addressed include media, education, law, immigration and mobility, urbanism, work, political representation and the arts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
  • This is an online synchronous course.
  • Lectures and class meetings will be live-streamed to enable real-time contact with the professor and classmates.
  • A significant amount of course content will be available asynchronously which registered students can access on their own time.
  • Students will have the opportunity for weekly online office hours to ask questions and clarifications about course content and assignments.

Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. preferred in Social Sciences or Humanities.
  • Demonstrated research and/or teaching expertise on issues relating to Black Canadian studies is required.
  • University level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students, and experience teaching online, are assets.
