UHN Job Opportunities – Stem Cell Specialist, Medical Laboratory Technologist

Job Description:

The Cell Processing Lab plays a central and crucial role in the Blood and Marrow Transplant program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and the Stem Cell Specialist at this facility exercises significant independent judgment, initiative and decision making, extreme accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work shift work and adjust to a flexible and sometimes unpredictable work schedule. Working with blood products for patient transplant is highly demanding mentally, since it directly affects patient wellbeing and errors, both technical and clerical, can be very detrimental and are for the most part unacceptable. The work requires specialized training and clinical grade sterility as well as a flawless tracking system both electronic and on paper in order to deliver optimum results in patient care. It also entails direct contact with biologically hazardous specimens.

Job Requirements:

• Minimum two (2) years of experience in a Cell Processing Facility, or equivalent
• Completion of a Medical Laboratory Science college program and membership with the College for Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
• Experience with clinical transplant of different types of Hematopoietic Progenitor and Therapeutic cells
• Expertise working in clinical grade aseptic conditions; GMP/GLP standards and guidelines
• Knowledge of applicable legislative and/or departmental policies
• Client service oriented with the ability to effectively work with diversity
• Compliance with confidentiality requirements
• Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task
