As innovative career educators, the UBC Sauder’s Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) team supports students’ personal and professional journey to responsible leadership through customized services focused on self-exploration, career development and access to business communities.

The Career Programming Manager is responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the Business Career Centre (BCC) Career Development Model. The model is designed to help students navigate their personal and professional career goals at UBC Sauder and beyond, and provides a framework to guide how the BCC designs and delivers career services to support students.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops, manages, and maintains budget for appropriate resources, support, and activities.
  • Manages the implementation of the Career Development model within the BCC and with key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of scalable career development resources and tools that align to the diverse needs of our UBC Sauder student population.
  • Manages the incorporation of career development theories, principles, and insights as well as market and future of work trends within the model to enhance service excellence.
  • Researches and obtains information on career services activities at other business schools, and, under the direction of the Associate Director, Student Experience and Careers, develops strategies for their adoption and adaptation for UBC Sauder, as appropriate.
  • Liaises with faculty to monitor UBC Sauder academic content to continuously ensure the model and related activities augment the classroom experience.
  • Conducts research and prepares briefs, data and reports to ensure success of career development activities and student satisfaction.
  • Leads and facilitates a learning and development strategy and related programming for our team of career mangers to enhance service excellence.
  • Supports the education and onboarding of staff on our career development model and programming.
  • Works with managers and senior leaders across graduate and undergraduate portfolio teams to ensure career development programming and resources support a positive and consistent student experience.
  • Liaises with UBC Sauder stakeholders and student leaders to support the development and implementation of career development strategies.
  • Leads a cross-functional committee of managers and staff to develop the model and approach of delivering programming to enhance service excellence.
  • Generates and manages qualitative and quantitative data to monitor employment, career and market trends to ensure a better student experience of career development programming.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge in career trends in the changing world of work as well as labor market/industry knowledge is an asset.
  • Certification or working knowledge in career development assessment tools: CliftonStrengths, RocheMartin Emotional Capital or other human capital assessment tools is an asset.
  • Must have experience presenting in front of large groups, including facilitating team meetings, committees, classes and workshops; virtual and in-person.
  • Must possess significant experience working with career development practices, theory and assessments for personal and professional development.
  • Certified Coach (from a verified credentialing body) and/or extensive coaching experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to inspire key stakeholders.
  • Must have experience with MS Office applications, including advanced Word and PowerPoint skills as well as intermediate Excel skills.
  • Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Experience in designing, developing, delivering and evaluating career related content.
  • Hands-on knowledge of creating and managing online content and resources is an asset.
  • Experience working regularly with management and executive level leadership in one or more of the areas of career coaching, career services delivery, learning and development, recruitment, human resources management is an asset.
