Job Description:
As a research associate, you will carry out independent research consistent with the goals of the program and for the leadership of a team of researchers, including students and technicians. You will use and develop metabolomics methods to discover and characterize novel biomarkers of various disease states in a project. You will be responsible for metabolomic analysis of biological samples and for generating, analyzing, and interpreting data from samples supplied through collaborators, and for training those collaborators in proper methods for experiment design and sample collection. Responsibilities will include the design, planning, and execution of all experiments relevant to the project. The individual will also be required to report on research findings and present their work to Principal Investigators and other members of the research team and collaborators, within and outside of the program.
Job Responsibilities:
- Using and developing LC-MS/MS methods for metabolomics analysis
- Co-ordinating with other project leaders, PIs and collaborators
- Communication of scientific results, data analysis and reporting
- Designing, planning and executing research projects
- Working with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams
- Supervising other research staff and students
- Ensuring project goals are met within the context of the larger program
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and direct projects
- Strong familiarity with metabolic pathways and their regulation.
- Publication record in the field of mass spectrometry (metabolomics or proteomics) analytical chemistry.
- Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators, propose explanations for data, and generate output files for projects.
- Strong understanding of the interpretation and analysis of mass spectral data.
- Proven skills in software development and use of R code.
Qualification & Experience:
- 3-5 years of direct experience in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics.
- Experience supervising staff, including students and laboratory trainees
- Experience with the preparation and submission of grant applications
- Ph.D. in molecular biology required
- Experience in statistical analysis is expected.
