Job Description:
As a Flow Cytometry Specialist, you will support dozens of high-impact research projects operating within the facility, to translating into scientific breakthroughs. You will ensure efficient and consistent operations of the facility including maintenance, inventory control, assistance with experimental design, interpretation, troubleshooting as well as running instruments for users. Relying on your sound scientific and technical skills and your strong communication skills, you will ensure operational excellence in a dynamic, high-compliance work environment amongst staff, students and faculty.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operating BD FACS Aria/FACS Melody cell sorters and any newly acquired instruments under level 2 sterile conditions and applying established standards
- Maintaining facility operations including instrument maintenance and oversight of instrument bookings and use
- Training users in flow cytometry and use of flow cytometry instruments
- Assisting clients with experimental design and troubleshooting experimental or equipment issues
- Collecting and reporting experimental data for clients on cell sorters or analyzers
Job Requirements:
- Abilityto work independently, and take initiative to meet deadlines and ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Familiarity with flow cytometry analysis software, such as FlowJo and FACS DIVA
- Experience serving as a resource and providing technical support, training, and troubleshooting to users
- Must work effectively in a team, have excellent time management skills, sound judgment, exemplary organizational skills, and a commitment to research
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and strong interpersonal skill
- Demonstrated experience supporting labs, including setup of equipment
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, experience applying lab safety and protocol procedures
- Minimum two years of relevant laboratory experience
- Experience with pre-clinical experiments, immunology/cell biology research
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite
Qualification & Experience:
- A graduate degree in related field
- Experience in sterile techniques, mammalian cell culture, cell isolation, immunostaining, and analysis by flow cytometry
- Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences (immunology or cell biology or related field) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Experience working in fluorescence based cell sorting with 5+ colours
- Experience in collecting, analyzing and summarizing data for presentation
- Experience working with human subjects
