Job Description:

The incumbent serves as a Public Affairs Specialist performing a wide variety of activities in planning, developing, and coordinating press activities for national programs, policies and decisions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities are listed at the full performance level.
  • Help lead development, coordination and implementation of national press activities, strategies and tactics for communicating critical and complex public land management challenges.
  • Represent the Washington Office at meetings and discussions involving individuals, groups, and organizations working in support of, or opposing, the policies, programs, and work of the Forest Service.
  • Incorporate situational analyses, target audience identification, media and message strategies to improve the effectiveness of ongoing press desk activities and campaign work.
  • Act as a liaison with regional offices in order to cultivate and amplify story-telling with diverse external audiences.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program strategies, key messages, and communication techniques for dealing with critical and complex public land management challenges.
