Job Description:

This position is located on White Mountain National Forest with duty station at Conway, New Hampshire.

This position is responsible for development, planning, and application of silvicultural methods and practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The following responsibilities are listed at the full performance.
  • Develop, plan and apply silvicultural methods and practices to meet program objectives.
  • Provide recommendations to the timber management assistant (TMA) on techniques, policies and procedures to increase the effectiveness or improve the quality of treatments.
  • Participate in timber sale unit layout and sale administration to ensure silvicultural management objectives are maintained.
  • Conduct examinations of timber compartments and stands to recommend basic land management decisions.
  • Make plantation and natural regeneration survival examinations to determine if results meet accepted standards.
  • Review and recommend plans, sale design, layout and marking in accordance with approved silvicultural prescription and environmental assessment reports.
  • Compile reports on work accomplishments for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate checks and inspections to determine the effectiveness of culture treatments.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial and work plans by estimating, combining, and coordinating project plans into an annual unit work plan.
  • Make silviculture prescriptions and action plans for timber stand improvement (TSI) and reforestation work necessary to attain timber management objectives.
  • Prepare or participate in the environmental analysis of projects and draft enviromental documents.
  • Prepare multiple-use compartment prescriptions and environmental assessment reports based on field examination.
  • Work as a team member to accomplish selected portions of silvicultural projects.
  • Assist higher graded foresters to conduct stand examinations.
  • Prepare documentation to recommend specific silvicultural treatments or actions.
