Job Responsibilities:

  • As an ideal candidate, you will bring a solid understanding and track record in research and innovation with demonstrated success in working with industry, government and other stakeholders in your technological and sectorial area.
  • You will also bring significant experience leading multidisciplinary teams within a large complex research and technology organization, and a deep understanding of government frameworks and priorities relating to the S&T and the innovation agenda.
  • You are known for your strategic ability to articulate purpose, rally support, and operationalize a vision.
  • Your credibility is derived from a broad scientific background combining sound business acumen with an ability to form trusting collaborations with industrial, university and government partners, the private sector, and other RTOs in Canada and internationally.
  • Your ability to inspire and motivate teams has enabled you to successfully lead transformation and take organizations to the next level

Job Requirements:

  • Extensive successful senior executive experience including a demonstrated ability to lead significant change, build superior teams, motivate diverse groups of individuals, and direct large-scale initiatives in a science or technology based organization.
  • Significant experience as a researcher leading progressively larger research teams in specialized research facilities, in order to advance knowledge and provide applied solutions for problems and clients.
  • Experience evaluating and developing organizational performance, including experience in the realignment and integration of strategic, business and work plans, the identification of business process improvements and the implementation of organization-wide change.
  • Significant experience in building partnerships with national and international companies and research and innovation organizations to advance mutual interests.
  • Significant experience developing and maintaining relationships with other senior government officials and industry leaders to promote organizational goals and priorities.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Canadian innovation system, its structure, players and issues; and the role of the Canadian government in supporting innovation.
  • Ability to build confidence, negotiate and influence senior level players from the public and private sector.
  • Ability to position and orient the organization to meet emerging trends and to achieve organizational and governmental objectives.
  • Significant knowledge of leadership/management principles, particularly as they relate to strategic business planning, organizational alignment, and management of a geographically dispersed organization.
  • Ability to employ interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a broad range of colleagues, stakeholders, and private and public sector clients.
  • Significant knowledge of conducting research and leading research programs.
